Pennsylvania Weather Review: October 2025
Pennsylvania Weather Review: October 2025
The 10th month of the year brought the feel of fall while also bringing some beneficial rain to the state. Below I will analyze the weather conditions in Pennsylvania during October 2025.
The warmth & dryness of September continued into early October. Brush fires became a concern, primarily on the 6th. Rain on the 7th brought an end to a streak of 9 to 12 days with no measurable precipitation statewide. Precipitation totals on the 7th were generally 0.50" to 2.00"+.

Frosty temperature on the 9th brought the coolest high temperatures since May. Low temperatures on the 10th were the coolest since April with northern PA dipping into the mid 20s.
Some light rain fell across central and eastern Pennsylvania on the 12th, 13th, and 14th. Another cold front on the 19th brought breezy conditions and up to 2.00" in portions of western PA. Some isolated thunderstorms brought the lone Severe Thunderstorm Warning of the month on the 21st. Nickel sized hail was reported with that storm. Heavy rain fell near the Lake Erie shoreline on the 22nd and 23rd (more on this below).

Cooler temperatures continued with highs in the 40s on the 24th along with the first snow of the season in the highest elevations (~2,900+ feet). The month ended wet, cool, and windy. 1.00" to 2.00" fell nearly statewide on the 30th with many daily rainfall records being broken. Halloween was drier but brought gusty winds.

While most of the month was dry, there were a few rain events that brought beneficial precipitation to the state. A number of locations had their wettest day in October. Most notably, Erie had a very wet month, highlighted below.
2.22" on October 7th was the wettest day of the year in Erie until 2.51" fell on the 23rd pushing the total over 7" for the month. With an additional 1.65" on the 30th, the month ended as the 2nd wettest October on record and the 8th wettest month ever! Some more crazy stats about the wetness in Erie:
- The last October day with more than 2.00" was in 1988.
- October 2025 is the first time with 2 days with more than 2.00" during the month of October.
- The last time (and only other time) that 3 days with 1.50"+ of rain was recorded in October was 1885!
- October 23rd ranks as the 4th wettest October day ever (2.51"); October 7th ranks as 7th wettest (2.22").
